Badminton News: Badminton star An Se Young continued her incredible run at the Korea Open Super 500 women’s singles event, winning her 6th title of the year on Sunday.
In a thrilling final, South Korea’s No. 2 An Se Young put in an impressive performance on home soil, knocking out Chinese Taipei’s No. 1. 4 seed Tai Tzu Ying in straight matches to claim his second straight Korea Open championship.
Se Young won 21-9 21-15, becoming the third women’s singles player to successfully defend her title after Bang Soo-Hyun (1993, 1994) and Camilla Martin (2000, 2001).
An Se Young’s excellent form this year has been undeniable, with victories at the Indian Open, India Masters, All England, Thailand Open and Singapore Open. Her excellent performance at the Korea Open Super 500 marks her sixth title in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Chinese badminton team became the biggest champions at the Korea Open, scoring victories in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles categories.
The women’s doubles final saw world number 1 and number one seeded Chinese pair Jia Yifan/Chen Qingchen beat 2019 Korean Open champions Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong with a thrilling 21-10, 17-21, 21-7, reclaiming the women’s doubles title for China after a six-year gap.
It was Jia/Chen’s third title of the year, adding to their previous successes at the Malaysia Open World Tour Super 1000 and Singapore Open World Tour Super 750.
