After 17 years of construction and trials, Modi commissioned INS Vikrant – the Navy’s second operational aircraft carrier and the largest warship ever built in India – at a state-run shipyard in the south.

Pakistan army returns to rescue 2,000 people stranded by floods
Pakistani armed forces have rescued another 2,000 people stranded in flooded areas. Monsoon rains that have triggered torrential floods in Pakistan since June have killed more than 1,200 people.
“Including 416 children,” said the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The United Nations (UN) has proposed a fundraiser of $160 million to help fight the floods in Pakistan, described as an “unprecedented climate disaster”.

Accused of immigration violations, former British ambassador to Myanmar jailed
The Myanmar army imprisoned the former British ambassador and her husband for a year each. Both were found guilty of breaking immigration rules.
Vicky Bowman, who served as Britain’s ambassador to Myanmar from 2002 to 2006, was arrested last month for failing to declare that she lived at a different address from the one on her foreign registration certificate.
Htein Lin, a national and prominent artist from Myanmar, was arrested for helping his wife live at a different address from their registered home in Yangon Mall.
