Indonesian national team currently candidate Asian Cup 2023 with ranked team status Fifa the lowest, which is 159th.
With reference to the 2019 Asian Cup, Indonesia’s success is a big surprise. In the championship that took place in the United Arab Emirates, the lowest ranked team was Turkmenistan (129).
In the 2015 edition, the lowest ranked team was Palestine (167). Palestine did not qualify but won the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup. Meanwhile, in 2011, India (133) was the weakest.
So far, the Indonesian national team is ranked 159th in FIFA. For the Asia region, the Red and White team is in the 34th place or the seventh position for the Southeast Asia region.
Due to this low ranking, the Indonesian national team entered pot four in the Asian Cup 2023 qualifying and final group draw. Additionally, the Indonesian national team qualified for the qualifying round via the play-off route against Taiwan.
Although they weren’t counted as able to qualify for the group stage, Shin Tae Yong’s team created a surprise. In a group with Jordan (117) and Kuwait (146) who are ranked higher, Garuda Squad are the two best teams in Group A.
A 2-1 win over Kuwait at the Jaber Al Ahmad Stadium on June 8 was key. Thanks to this victory, Fachruddin Aryanto, his friends appeared confident, crushing in particular Nepal on the score of 7-0.
With these two victories, based on the results of the points calculation, the position of the Indonesian national team in the FIFA rankings will be under control. The Indonesian national team is expected to be in 155th place.
The teams participating in the Asian Cup 2023 with the highest ranking are Iran (21), Japan (23), South Korea (29), Australia (42) and Saudi Arabia (49) . These five teams will participate in the 2022 World Cup.
The Indonesia national team’s standings in the upcoming Asian Cup 2023 may still change based on appearances for next year.
