New Delhi (ANTARA News) – Indonesia and India have agreed to increase cooperation in three areas, namely trade normalization, youth and sports, and illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing ).
The exchange of MoU documents between the two countries took place in the presence of two heads of state, namely President Jokowi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before delivering a joint press statement to the the outcome of their bilateral meeting in the Mughal room, 1st floor. Hyderabad House, New Delhi, Monday.
The joint memorandum of understanding was exchanged between the two officials with the Indonesian side represented by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi.
The three agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in trade standardization between the National Standards Agency (BSN) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the documents of which were exchanged between the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Foreign Minister.
Secondly, related to the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the youth and sports sector, including the exchange of information in this area involving the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports and India.
Third, linked to the joint communiqué on voluntary international cooperation to combat IUU fishing and promote sustainable fisheries governance.
President Jokowi said he welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Exchange (MoU) in the area of trade normalization between the two countries.
And President Jokowi expressed confidence that this would increase trade to support economic cooperation and “people-to-people contacts.”
“Indonesia (also) invites India to increase investment cooperation in the pharmaceutical, IT and automobile sectors,” President Jokowi said.
In the joint press release, Prime Minister Modi also welcomed efforts to increase cooperation between the two countries.
According to him, Indonesia is a very valuable partner country for India and has strong historical ties.
As the country with the largest economy in Southeast Asia, while India is the country with the largest economy in the world, it is considered to increase strategic cooperation.
“We agreed to build a stronger partnership between the two countries,” he said.
