Badminton News: Former Indian badminton player Shlok Ramchandran has also made his mark as a coach in the United States two years after moving to a new country.
Three of Shlok’s students from his new club Synergy Badminton Academy have joined the US junior badminton team, the most important of any US club.
The tryout to select the US team for the BWF World Junior Badminton Championships ended in Dallas a few days ago.
A former men’s doubles world number 32, Shlok has now moved to the United States after announcing his abrupt retirement from international badminton in 2020 at the age of 24.
Thanks to his impressive coaching skills, Shlok is now competing to become the official coach of Team USA badminton for the Junior World Championships to be held September 24-October 8, 2023 in Spokane, Washington, USA. United.
If he coaches the US junior team, he will be the youngest in US badminton history.
Clearly, Shlok, who hails from Mumbai, is delighted with his three trainees’ qualification for the national team.
“I’m very happy to have Allison Lee, Francesca Corbett and Samuel Li on the World Junior Team. Arden Lee is also on the Pan Am team for the under-17 mixed doubles,” Shlok told TOI on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old is enjoying his new challenge and is determined to coach in the United States.
“It’s only been a few months since I joined Synergy Badminton Academy and the players have responded well to my methods, but credit goes to the entire Synergy coaching team. Management support is very good, this which is very helpful,” Shlok said.
The former Indian doubles specialist was delighted that the 23rd edition of the Junior Worlds was taking place in the United States itself. He hopes that one of his three trainees can make the country proud by finishing on the podium.
Francesca Corbett and Allison Lee are in the women’s doubles ranking 50 and are considered very promising.
“There is still a long way to go, but the goal is to get Samuel and the Allison-Francesca pair on the podium at the WJC which will be held in the United States itself. Now that I have more time before that they don’t play in their next tournament, I’m delighted to work with the many youngsters from U-13 to U-17 and help them take them to the next level,” said Shlok.
Shlok is an integral part of the Indian men’s badminton team which has represented the national team in all major tournaments. This great badminton player also won 7 BWF titles and was runner up in 4 tournaments.
His best men’s doubles world ranking is 32 with MR Arjun in 2018. After Shlok’s retirement, Arjun partnered with Dhruv Kapila.
