The first Sherpa meeting of India’s G20 presidency has taken place, the Indian presidency is on its way One Earth, one family and one future Started

Udaipur, December 9, 2022

The first Sherpa meeting of India’s G20 Presidency was held from 4-7 December 2022 in the historic city of Udaipur located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The meeting, chaired by G20 Sherpa Shri Amitabh Kant, brought together G20 Sherpas, invited nations and international organizations to define key points on some of today’s most pressing issues. The meeting consisted of 5 sessions, namely Technology Transformation, Green Development and LiFE (Lifestyle for the environment), emphasizing women-led development, accelerating the implementation of the SDGs, facilitating inclusive and resilient growth and multilateral reforms.

The Indonesian delegation that attended the meeting was led by Deputy for the Coordination of International Economic Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, as Co-Sherpas G20 Indonesia. Indonesia appreciates the ties and continuity between the Indonesian G20 Presidency and India’s G20 Presidency, and highlighted several important issues that were agreed at the G20 Summit in Bali. Indonesia also underlined the weight of Concrete deliverables as a model for G20 members around the world.

Co-Sherpas Edi Prio Pambudi said that as a troika, Indonesia would support India towards a strong and successful Indian G20 Presidency. Similar to the G20 Summit in Bali, India’s focus, especially on digital transformation, is critical for the future of the global economy and accelerating the global recovery. Regarding current issues and national interests, Indonesia also supports training work group new to the Indian presidency of the G20, for example Work group Disaster Resilience and Risk Reduction, Work group Culture and startups 20. Indonesian initiatives during the Indonesian G20 Presidency also continued, such as Work group Digital Economy.

Note that this first Sherpa meeting presents “Indian experience” unique offerings to delegates through cultural performances, art exhibitions and visits to destinations such as Kumbhalgarh Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the temple complex of Ranakpur. Aligned with Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, India also hosted Sherpa’s Talk or called Chai pe Charcha, which discussed future steps on common concerns as well as to foster deeper relationships and increase the contribution of the G20 as a whole. .

The discussion of this first Sherpa meeting was initiated by the Indian G20 Sherpas through an overview of the priorities of the Indian G20 at 13 work group and a brief description of FinanceTrack. Sherpa highlighted India’s role in giving a greater voice to the Global South and leveraged its G20 presidency to forge win-win collaborations between developing and advanced economies.

While some members still highlighted some of the global obstacles to economic growth, delegates underscored the importance of achieving resilient growth through long-term solutions and meaningful partnerships. The discussion also focused on the importance of multilateral reforms, achieving the SDGs, food, fuel and fertilizer issues.

Summarizing the outcomes of the three days of discussion, the Indian G20 Sherpas highlighted priority areas for discussion and stressed the need to strengthen collective action by G20 countries. The overall theme of India’s G20 Presidency is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth. A family. A future – echoes in all activities. more than in-depth discussions and excursions for two days, the first Sherpa meeting of India’s G20 Presidency has come to an end. G20 member Sherpas, 9 guest countries and 14 international organizations participated fully and actively in all meetings.

For your information, the next meeting will be held in Cochin, Kelara, India around March 2023. The meeting will discuss the progress of the action oriented decision making agenda which should have been discussed in the upcoming meetings on various streams work of the G20, including Sherpa course, Finance course, and Mobilization groups.
