Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat decided to retire after being disqualified and deprived of the right to win a silver medal at Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Ahead of the final match of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified because her weight did not match the weight she was competing in, the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling class.

Before weighing himself, Vinesh Phogat was 2 kilos overweight. Phogat's weight increased because he had to increase his intake to regain his fitness after fighting three times a day at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The day before the weigh-in, Vinesh Phogat struggled to lose weight so that she could be declared fit to compete in the 50kg event.

However, it was unfortunate for Vinesh Phogat because when she was weighed, she was still 100 grams overweight.

Vinesh Phogat was also declared disqualified and could not participate in the final match. In fact, the silver medal that should have belonged to Vinesh Phogat had to be withdrawn.

According to a report by India Today, Vinesh Phogat fainted moments after being disqualified and was hospitalised due to suspected dehydration.

Not accepting this decision, India immediately took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). India is still waiting for the results of the CAS.

Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat was devastated by the referee's painful decision at the 2024 Olympics. Vinesh Phogat's disappointment prompted him to retire from wrestling.

“Mother won the wrestling match against me, I lost. I am sorry, your dreams, my courage is broken, I have no strength left. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024,” Vinesh Phogat wrote on her personal account X on Thursday (8/8).

“I will always be indebted to all of you for your support,” Vinesh Phogat added.
