India vs England Women’s Test: The Indian women’s cricket team looks to right the wrongs in a rare IND-W vs ENG-W Test in Mumbai.
India Women’s Test vs England Women’s Test: Women’s Tests are rare and when it comes to the Indian women’s cricket team, it is a unique cricket match. Consider that former Indian captain Mithali Raj, whose career spanned over two decades, could only play 12 Tests. But now it’s time for the next generation, a generation that focuses more on women’s football. With a fiery leader in Harmanpreet Kaur, the white-shirted Indian team will look to deny an away victory to the England women’s cricket team, who are playing their 100th Test. The IND-W vs ENG-W one-off Test will begin on Thursday at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
IND vs ENG female test: rare
One-off test matches are not about bragging but about correcting mistakes. The world’s richest cricket board (read BCCI) will only be able to host a women’s Test match in nine years. This tells you how rare this phenomenon is. In these nine years, the Indian women’s cricket team has played only two Tests and both ended in draws – one against England in 2021 at Bristol and the other against Australia in Carrara the same year.
The last time the women wore white at home, they ended up winning by an innings and 34 runs in Mysuru against South Africa.

However, India’s last two Tests created confusion for the fifth time in a women’s Test. Unlike men, the exam for women only lasts four days. However, these two Tests could end up going in India’s favor and that will happen on the fifth day as well.
As the debate continues, Team India will look to open a new chapter without their two stalwarts Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami. Both have retired from the game. And now, it is up to Shafali Verma and Renuka Thakur to continue the fight in the five-day Test for women. The two will take part in the India-England women’s Test on Thursday.
100th Test for England
In contrast, England have more recent Test experience, although not in terms of the number of Tests played by men. However, it has been a long time since they tasted Test glory, with their last victory coming against Australia in 2014. It was the same opponent who had beaten them in the last Ashes. However, with England set to play a record 100th Test, they will look to finish their journey against India with the India v England Women’s Test.
Of the 14 meetings between Indians and English, only three ended in victory. England won by two runs at Jamshedpur in 1995, while India won at Taunton in 2006 and Wormsley in 2014.
News from the IND-W vs ENG-W team:
India have strengthened their spin attack for the upcoming Test, including left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque, who made his T20I debut against England. Among the new faces is Shubha Satheesh from Karnataka, who made a big impression during the senior team’s camp in Bengaluru. The batting lineup will likely include Jemimah Rodrigues and Harleen Deol, who will add depth to the team. Renuka Singh Thakur, appreciated for his performance in T20Is, returns as a seamer.
Emma Lamb was withdrawn from the England squad due to injury, and batsmen Maia Bouchier and Kirstie Gordon were added to the squad. England faces the challenge of deciding who to partner with Beaumont. Dunkley is an option given his experience in white-ball cricket, which could potentially lead to Capsey’s Test debut. Another highlight was the second place between Lauren Filer, known for her pace in the Ashes, and Lauren Bell.
