Goddess on the train, tribute to singer Lala Mangeshkar, conference on Indian women’s journey since the covenant… “Women of light” is the theme of Dipavali which will be celebrated on Sunday in Saint-Pierre.
The victory of light over darkness, of course evil, knowledge over ignorance, Dipavali will be celebrated this Sunday in Saint-Pierre. “Lady of light” is the theme of the light festival dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi (goddess of prosperity and abundance). This year Saint-Pierre returned to the traditional parade, which has not been held since 2019 due to the health crisis, on the seafront at nightfall.
The one who removes the obstacles, Ganesh, will open this colorful parade in which about thirty associations from all over the island will participate. Six floats, including five goddesses carrying Hindu deities, and a horse-drawn carriage will be part of a procession of about 800 people who will dance to the beat of the drums.
Among the highlights of this festival of lights, “we will pay homage to Lala Mangeshkar, the singer who left us this year in February, and who was nicknamed the Nightingale of India”, said Sandrine Aho Nieme, assistant in charge of Culture. The homage to this iconic figure of Bollywood culture will be paid for by audiovisual projection on the Place Albany podium where a varied artistic sequence, blending tradition and modernity, is planned from 20:30.
