Indian woman explains why she chose US over Bangalore

Ms Mohan said she appreciated the United States' “wild, relentless optimism”.

A Bengaluru woman, who was confused about whether to stay in her hometown or move to the US, has finally decided that America will be her “new home”. In a lengthy X-rated post, the woman known as Viba Mohan on the microblogging site explained why her move from Bengaluru to the US was the best decision for her personal and professional growth. She listed four reasons why she decided to settle down in the US for the next few years.

Citing culture as the main reason, Mohan said she appreciates the “wild, relentless optimism” of the United States. “There are two things about the culture here that I love. First – wild, relentless optimism. Everyone is excited about the possibilities, and if you fail, you try again! The second is competence. It’s about honing your skills, and that vibe is contagious,” she wrote.

The second reason is safety, both in the workplace and on the road. “It’s fun to work without the fear of co-workers who are obsessed with you and have no boundaries. And the freedom to walk or run without having to be constantly on alert? It turns out that living in a safer place not only makes you calmer, but also more productive,” Mohan says.

In his third reason, he said, “The visa game is a nightmare. I knew I wouldn’t commit to an H1B or spend a lot of money on a master’s degree to move here. Getting O1 and the freedom that comes with it makes things a lot easier.”

Finally, he also compared the startup ecosystems of Bangalore and San Francisco. “No doubt, Bangalore has many brilliant minds! However, the tech world? It’s often about Fintech, Last Mile, e-commerce, you know, the usual stuff. The changes are great, but the problem that worries me the most? The problem is still being solved in SF,” Mohan wrote.

“Bangalore will always be where my heart is. I have made a lot of good friends and learned a lot there. However, for what I want to do, America is the right place right now,” he concluded.

Mohan's mother shared the post a few days ago. Since then, the post has been viewed over 137,000 times. In the comments section, while some users agreed with her decision, others wrote the pros and cons.

“I agree with most of the points, it would add infrastructure and civic awareness here too,” wrote one user. “I lived in the US for over 10 years and came back to India to start my own business. Both have pros and cons. So live where you are happy. In India, the most important thing for me was to be able to stay and provide for my mother. Also, I earn more now than in the US, but the tech side of America is great,” said another.

“Wise decision! Freedom > Money > Quality of life including infrastructure, climate, sun, water, nature > Friends and family > Health infrastructure,” commented a third.
