Indian streaming service Wynk Music shuts down; customers shifted to Apple Music via new partnership with Airtel

Wynk Music, one of India's leading music streaming platforms, is shutting down.

The announcement revealed that Airtel has signed a new partnership in India with Apple, offering Airtel customers “new exclusive offerings for Apple TV+ and Apple Music.”

In reality, this means Wynk Premium Music customers will now be asked to transfer their subscription to Apple Music.

In its press release, Airtel confirmed: “Wynk Music is at the forefront of providing quality music content to our customers. Wynk Premium users will be able to subscribe to Apple Music and benefit from exclusive offers. »

Closing Wynk Music will leave local music services like JioSaavn And Gaana fighting with global music services in India including Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music.

Gaana announced in 2022 that they were closing their free offering and becoming a subscription-only platform.

Indian media reported earlier this month that Gaana had been integrated into a subsidiary of the listed Times Group. Indian Entertainment Network Limited (ENIL) in December 2023.

The move comes after a potential merger between Gaana and Airtel's Wynk Music fell through.

Wynk Music launched in 2014 and surpassed 100 million app installs in 2019.
