Indian Sports Calendar June 2024: Big Events to Expect This Month

The Indian cricket team is looking to end its 17-year T20 World Cup title drought.

Indian athletes are working hard to qualify for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The month of June in the Indian sports calendar will host many important Olympic and Paralympic qualifying tournaments where athletes will attempt to meet stringent qualification standards .

In May, several Indian athletes made good progress during qualifications. Boxers Nishant Dev, Amit Panghal and Jaismine qualified for the Paris Olympics by reaching the semi-finals of the Bangkok Olympic qualifying tournament.

In wrestling, Aman Sehrawat and Nisha Dahiya helped increase India's total wrestling quota to six in the recent Olympic wrestling qualifiers in Istanbul, Turkey. Their performance ended a successful qualification cycle for Indian wrestlers.

Far from being an Olympic sport, the Indian Premier League cricket tournament ended with Kolkata Knight Riders winning their first title in 10 years by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final.

Big events to watch out for in June on the Indian sports calendar

Archery

A great month for Indian archery. The last Olympic qualifications will take place on June 15 and 16 in Türkiye. Post that, the Antalya Archery World Cup is scheduled for June 18-23.

Athletics

Indian athletes will aim for Olympic qualifying standards at various events across the world. Neeraj Chopra, who missed several important events due to recovery measures and precautions, will look to make an impression at the Paavo Nurmi Games among the best javelin throwers.

Beach volleyball

The 2023-24 Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will take place in Ningbo, China from June 16 to 23. The competition will also serve as an Olympic qualifier.

Cricket

The 2024 Men's T20 World Cup will take place from June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and the United States. In total, 20 teams will participate. Format: Group Stage -> Super 8 -> Semi-finals -> Final.

The final round of sport climbing qualifications will take place before the Paris 2024 sport climbing contingent is finalized.
