Indian rower Balraj Panwar made history by posting impressive times to secure a place in Paris in 2024

Balraj Panwar failed to win a bronze medal at the Asian Games last year with a time of 7:17.87 seconds in the preliminary round and 7:16.29 seconds in the semi-final.

In what can be termed as a historic moment for Indian sports, rower Balraj Panwar secured the country's first bid for the 2024 Paris Olympics during the Asian Olympic qualifiers in South Korea on Sunday. Panwar finished third in the men's rowing competition, clocking an impressive time of 7:01:27 over a distance of 2,000m.

Para Scull mixed duo rowers Narayana Konganapalle and Anita also secured their place for the 2024 event in Paris. The duo clocked 7:50:80 to qualify for the competition. Unfortunately, the Arvind Singh/Ujjwal Kumar team could not progress despite a good performance in the men's lightweight doubles. Only the first two in this category will receive a Paris 2024 quota.

How well did Balraj Panwar perform? Will he manage to win a medal at Paris 2024?

Even though Balraj Panwar performed well in the men's 2000m singles event, he actually has no chance of winning a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the 2020 Olympics, the sixth competitor in the same category was the Lithuanian Mindaugas Griskonis who recorded the best time. from 6:57:60.

The bronze medal was won by Croatian Damir Martin in 6:42.58. The gold medal went to a time of 6:40.45. So Panwar had to really row to win a medal at the Olympics.
