The 1,117 kilogram EOS-06 is the third spacecraft in India’s Oceansat series. The satellite will use three scientific instruments to monitor sea surface temperatures for five years. EOS-06 also carries a fourth instrument that will help transmit data back to Earth.
After lowering EOS-06, the top of the PSLV performed a series of maneuvers, descending to deploy eight small satellites at an altitude of about 520 km.Aircraft carrying this payload are very diverse.
For example, four of them are “Astrocat” cube satellites, spacecraft the size of a loaf of bread that will demonstrate “internet of things” technology. Another, named Anand, will “demonstrate the capabilities and commercial applications of miniature Earth observation cameras” in low Earth orbit.
Saturday’s mission (26/11/2022) marked the 56th flight of the PSLV. The rocket is India’s medium rocket, capable of carrying up to 1,750 kg of payload into a sun-synchronous polar orbit.
