Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi sent a special message to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This was conveyed by Indian Ambassador to Indonesia and East Timor Sandeep Chakravorty on Friday (21/6/2024).
Sandeep said this message was related to World Yoga Day which falls on June 21, 2024. He said Prime Minister Modi had sought support from Jokowi to support this Indian sports day.
“Prime Minister Modi spoke to President Jokowi about World Yoga Day with the hope that President Jokowi will be able to provide support for this commemoration,” he said at an event commemorating the World Yoga Day at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta.
Sandeep added that the culmination of Indonesia's World Yoga Day commemoration will take place next Sunday in Solo, Central Java. He said the event would receive the support of Solo Mayor, who is also Vice President-elect, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
“Mr. Gibran will participate in the culmination of the commemoration. It will be the main event of the Indian Embassy in Indonesia.”
In addition, Sandeep admitted that he was satisfied with the development of yoga in Indonesia. According to him, many Indonesian citizens have taken up the sport with enthusiasm.
“In Indonesia, there are many yoga groups, even in small towns. The sport is accessible to everyone,” he added.
“Prime Minister Modi also said that yoga can be a way to strengthen community relations. This can be done by doing yoga in groups and community groups.”
