Indian Chief Minister's hockey team announced massive cash prizes for Olympic bronze medallists.

The Government of Odisha under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Vijay Utsav is organising a grand celebration at Kalinga Stadium on 21st August 2024. This prestigious event honours the Indian Hockey Team for their extraordinary achievement of winning a bronze medal in the Olympics recently.

The Indian hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh and featuring Odia star Amit Rohidas, won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a thumping win over Spain. The Vijay Utsav began with a vibrant parade from Biju Patnaik Airport to Kalinga Stadium, ending with a grand celebration of the country's sporting heroes with thousands of people and hundreds of folk artistes joining the roadshow.

The roadshow is a true testimony of the State's unwavering support for hockey and its deep connect with the sport, as stated by Hon'ble Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

Hon'ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi opened all doors to encourage the hockey team by announcing ₹15 lakh for each player, ₹10 lakh for each support staff, ₹50 lakh for PR Sreejesh and ₹4 crore for Odisha star Amit Rohidas.

The Odisha government is now focusing on improving the basic infrastructure to promote sports across the state. This strategic decision is in line with the vision of the Odisha Chief Minister to build a strong sports ecosystem and elevate the overall sports culture in the state. Building on the commitment to hockey, Chief Minister Majhi announced a further extension of Odisha’s sponsorship of Indian hockey till 2036, in line with the ambitious ‘Odisha Vision: 2036’, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of Odisha.

Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj added, “This grand celebration not only honours the outstanding achievements of our athletes but also highlights the important role of the Odisha government in promoting sports at the national and international levels. We reaffirm our commitment to develop talent and build a strong sports infrastructure for the future from the grassroots level.”

The government will leave no stone unturned to create a strong infrastructure on the ground to produce more Olympic-ready players, which is in line with the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Even though the festive fever is yet to kick in in the state, the celebrations organised by the Odisha Government create an extraordinary and exciting atmosphere.
