The school playground has once again produced a stupid game. Or rather, the end of a stupidity that claimed the life of a young girl in 2021 in France.

Similar to the famous “scarf game”, The “Indian dream” consists of forcing oneself to hyperventilate in a squatting position, then suddenly getting up while stopping breathing. Results? Fainting for a few seconds, sometimes minutes.

The phenomenon that made parents and teachers tremble in 2021 is now appearing again in schools in France, especially on the Somme, north of the capital. This challenge spread through social networks, especially on TikTok. The platform blocks content related to the term “Indian dream”…

But the precautions taken by these platforms are not the most difficult to avoid: Young internet users have found another way to share their greatest “hits” by completing this challenge.

By typing in the derivative, “Indian sleep” for example, TikTok offers its users a trove of videos of unconscious teenagers “to laugh at.”

It's just that the joke can also end badly. The challenge took its toll in 2021, and on September 19, in Saint-Brieuc, Brittany, a young girl fell victim to the disease in her school yard. He was taken to hospital.

“He was on his knees, he was gasping for air. Then he woke up, he had a headache. He put his finger in his mouth and fell.”

Doctors warn of these challenges. “The consequences can be acute, such as loss of consciousness leading to head trauma, even brain damage, or even cardiac arrest for those who may experience unknown failure,” explains pediatrician Christophe Batard on BFMTV.

“In the long term, this brain injury can lead to recurrent epileptic seizures because we create moments when the brain is not irrigated.”

Since the beginning of the school year, in France, some cases of discomfort have been reported after this challenge. But the “Indian dream” is not the only dangerous challenge facing today's young students: the comma game also makes teachers and parents break out in a cold sweat.

The school calls for vigilance and tries to prevent this phenomenon from spreading on social networks.
