Coach praises ‘Ben Stokes’ Deepti Sharma
In his post-match presentation speech, IND W coach Amol Mazumdar praised his side, saying no test is easy. Revealing that he calls Deepti Sharma ‘Ben Stokes’, Mazumdar said he was an “important cog”. The head coach also noted that the team would face Australia in the next Test in four days – a first for Indian women.
“It was brilliant. Amazing stuff from the girls. No test match is easy. But the effort the girls put in before the test match and the people who came 5-6 days before showed that there was a strong group working at the Wankhede stadium. A good sign for Indian cricket. Everyone who made their debut batted and bowled well. England are a top team, there is no doubt about that. You mentioned Stokesy (referring to Deepti). I jokingly call him Ben Stokes in the band. The confidence he brought and the confidence he earned. It was an important cog. We ran tests in parallel – this had never happened before. We play Australia in four days“, said Amol Mazumdar.
