Indian-American organizations and US stakeholders have welcomed the appointment of veteran diplomat Vinay Kwatra as India's Ambassador to the United States and said they look forward to working with him to take the bilateral partnership to a new level.
Kwatra, the former foreign minister, was appointed as India's ambassador to the United States on Friday. The post of Indian envoy to the US had been vacant since Taranjit Sandhu resigned in January.

Indiaspora would like to congratulate Shri Vinay Mohan Kwatra on his appointment as the next Indian Ambassador to the United States. Kwatra has served India honourably in his 30-year career, most recently as the Indian Foreign Secretary, Indiaspora said.

Welcoming Kwatra to Washington as India's new envoy to the United States, the USISPF said that as India's foreign minister, he oversaw Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic state visit to Washington in June last year and strengthened relations.
The USISPF looks forward to working with Ambassador Kwatra to further strengthen the US-India strategic partnership, it said.
Warm greetings and best wishes for a successful tenure to Ambassador Kwatra on his return to Washington DC, a city he knows very well and where he has already contributed significantly to the growth of bilateral relations over the years, said Atul Keshap, President, US India Business Council (USIBC).
The USIBC looks forward to working closely with Ambassador Kwatra to advance our bilateral trade and economic relations and ensure continued growth and cooperation between our two countries, the trade organization said.
“He has had a distinguished career that has included serving in a number of key diplomatic positions, including as Indian Foreign Minister. His extensive experience will be instrumental in strengthening U.S.-India relations,” it said.
Kwatra served as Foreign Minister from May 1, 2022 to July 14, 2024.
Kwatra joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1988.
