India were in dire straits to reach 145 against Bangladesh in the second test.

Bangladesh is closing in on a stunning win after crushing Indian batsmen while defending a low goal in the second and final Test at Mirpur on Saturday.

Spinner Mehidy Hasan made it 3-12 to leave the visitors fighting hard at 45-4, needing another 100 points to reach the target of 145.

The Tigers gave themselves a chance to equalize after Liton Das scored around 50 on counter-attacks, while their bottom order made an invaluable contribution to go from 113-6 to 231 at second innings at bat.

After conceding 87 in the first round lead, Bangladesh fell short on their front line but added 118 for the final four wickets after Das attacked with a taliender for company.

Das added 46 carries with Nurul Hasan (31) and 67 with Taskin Ahmed, who has not left the field at 31, before fast pitcher Mohammad Siraj broke his defense.

However, the leading batsman has luck on his side. Kohli twice tucks Das into Patel and Ashwin’s trousers.

Patel went 3-68 but had just walked into the locker room when he had to go out again after India lost two quick wickets.

On a track run with variable bouncing, captain Shakib Al Hasan started with laps either side and nearly caught Indian counterpart KL Rahul on the first pass of the half.

Shakib didn’t have to wait long and on his next bait he caught Rahul.

Mehidy then changed the course of the game. The off-spinner beat Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill and left Kohli very short legged, pushing India for a loss.

Patel, promoted to No. 4, batted with 26 runs at stumps, with night guard Jaydev Unadkat hitting three runs at the other end of the field.

If India ends up losing, their chances of reaching the final of the World Test Championship in June 2023 will be jeopardized.

India is currently second in the standings, but only slightly ahead of South Africa who is in third and Sri Lanka who is in fourth.
