India Sports Summit, August 26: 13 junior badminton countries meet in Pune

Players from 13 countries will meet to compete in junior badminton

Abhishek Kanpala and Prakriti Bharat will lead the Indian men and women respectively against participants from 13 countries at the Late Sushant Chipalkatti Yonex Sunrise India International Badminton Grand Prix that begins in Pune on Tuesday.

It was organised by Pune District Metropolitan Badminton Association under the auspices of Badminton Association of India at the modern PDMBA Sports Complex of PE Society.

The tournament, held in memory of late Sushant Chipalkatti, has become a regular fixture in the international junior badminton calendar.

A total of 280 players from 13 countries including India, America, UAE, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia, Switzerland, England, Taipei and Iran will participate in this event.

In the previous edition, the tournament saw star players like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Satviksairaj Rankireddy, Priyanshu Rajawat and Chirag Shetty.

In this tournament there will be matches in the categories of men's and women's singles under 19, doubles and mixed doubles.

Part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) circuit, it allows participants to earn ranking points and gain international experience.

Subroto Cup: Nongiri Presbyterian faces Major Diyanchand Sports College in final

Nongiri Presbyterian High School, Meghalaya will take on Dhyanchand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh in the summit clash on Wednesday in the 63rd Subroto Boys Cup at the Army Service Corps Centre.

Nongiri Presbyterian beat Krira Shikha Protisthan of Bangladesh 2-1 in extra time, while Major Diyanchand Sports College beat St. Stephen's School Chandigarh 3-0 to book their place in the final.

Hoping to spark a revolution, says Kochi owner Prithviraj; Sreejesh pulls out team jersey

Film actor Prithviraj Sukumaran wants to see the new Kerala Super League become a success and attract more youngsters to football. But he is also realistic and insists that great things do not happen overnight.

“We are not hoping for a revolution, but the beginning of a revolution. We hope this will open opportunities for the fledgling players and help them achieve bigger things,” Forca Kochi owner Prithviraj said at the team launch here on Monday evening.

Later, two-time Olympic bronze medallist in hockey PR Srejesh launched the Kochi team jersey at Lulu Mall.

The Kochi squad has six foreign players – Brazilian Rafael Augusto, a former two-time ISL champion with Chennaiyin FC, Tunisian Saeed Mohamed Nidhal, Dziri Omran, Ivorian Nangi Mokeyi, Ngubo Siyanda Jean Baptiste, South African Ngubo Siyanda and Aijeles Rolumbianis – and former Indian wicketkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury.

The team also features players from I-League clubs and Kerala's Santosh Trophy team including Nijo Gilbert, Arjun Jayaraj and Hajmel Sakker.

Delhi Open Talent Search: Abhinav Gogoi and Kavya emerge as top swimmers

Abhinav Gogoi and Kavya Shaw emerged as the top swimmers at the Swimming Quest competition in Delhi at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool on Sunday.

The swimming festival, which also featured swimmers from the United States and Australia, saw over 165 races for India in the 50m event across all age groups from four to 74.

Organising Secretary, Dr. Jitender Tokas, renowned swimming coach congratulated all the participants with medals and certificates along with refreshments and appreciated the efforts of everyone.
