Indian men and women in quarter-finals of world junior squash tournament

Indian men and women entered the quarter-finals of the World Junior Squash Championships in Houston on Saturday. The men will face fourth-placed South Korea and the women will face third-placed Malaysia.

The men's team beat Canada 2-0 in their pre-quarter-final match, while the women's team finished second in Group D after losing 1-2 to Hong Kong in their final league match.

Shaurya Bawa, who won individual bronze, came back to beat Yusuf Sarhan in the five-man field, while Arihant KS avenged his individual defeat to Evan Harris with an impressive win.

Men (before trimester):

India – Canada 2:0 (Arihant CS against Euan Harris 15-13, 12-10, 8-11, 11-2; Shaurya Bawa – Yusuf Sarkhan 12-14, 9-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11 -1).

Girls (Group D):

India lost 1-2 to Hong Kong (Nirupama Dubey beat Helen Tang 4-11, 10-12, 2-11; Anahat Singh and Ena Kwong 11-8, 9-11, 11-5, 11:7; Shamina Riaz lost to Ka Huen Leung 4-11, 9-11, 10-12).

FC Goa have signed young striker Alan Saji ahead of the new season

FC Goa have announced the signing of young striker Alan Saji from Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) academy on a multi-year contract.

The 18-year-old from Kerala has been with RFYC since he was 12 and was part of the RFYC team that competed at the Sanix Cup in Japan.

FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez expressed his delight with the new signing. “Alan Saji is an extraordinary talent and has a bright future. He is fast, courageous, very intelligent in the penalty area and has a very good aerial game.

“He is developing rapidly and we are giving him a great platform to further develop his skills. Of course, it is a step-by-step process but he has the qualities not only for the club but also for India to become a big player in the years to come,” he said.

Aditi is T-12, first to see Top-10 in 2024

Indian golfer Aditi Ashok was aiming for her first top-10 finish in 2024 when she shot a 3-under 68 in the third round of the Dana Open. which is T-12 here.

With a score of 67-72 in the first two days, Aditi is now one round behind in 8th place.

Her best LPGA finishes this season were T-17 at the Amundi Evian Championship last week and also at the Meijer LPGA Classic. Aditi has had a modest season in 2024 but will look to return to better form in the two weeks leading up to the Olympics.

Aditi recorded three birdies and no bogeys, with birdies on the eighth, 13th and 15th holes.

Thailand's Chanetti Vannasaen added a 5-under 66 to a career-best 36-hole 131 for a career-high 54-hole score of 197.
