Badminton News: Famous Indian badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty qualified for the second round of the men's doubles of the India Open Super 750 tournament on Wednesday evening (17/1).
Dynamic duo Satwik/Chirag, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, showed their skills and resilience in a tough match against Chinese Taipei's Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee, scoring 21-15, 19- 21 and 21- 2 victories.16.
However, the day was marked by a setback as Kidambi Srikanth had to bow out prematurely after an erratic performance, succumbing to a back-to-back defeat against Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu.
Despite a combination of brilliant shots and unforced errors, Srikanth ultimately lost 22-24, 13-21 to world number 18 Lee.
Srikanth showed promise with a good start in the opening match, showing some good shots from the back of the court to maintain the lead. However, Lee Cheuk Yiu bounced back, engaging in a close battle and saving three match points in a 17-17 stalemate.
Despite Srikanth's efforts to level the score at 20-20 and briefly take a one-point lead, a crucial error in the form of a well-aimed shot allowed Lee to seal the match with a clean shot.
The second game saw Srikanth face a tough deficit, trailing 2-11 at the break after a substitution. Although he managed to get back to 6-12, the initial damage proved insurmountable as the gap was still too big to close, leaving the Indian shuttler facing a straight defeat to Lee Cheuk Yiu.
“I know I have been making my own mistakes for a while and I am correcting them,” Srikanth said after the match.
“I'm not playing safe, it's my game. I'm trying to score runs. I hope things get better in the coming tournaments. Parupalli (Kashyap) has a few things on his mind, so let's see. If I win “Some tournaments, I will qualify for the Olympics. I don't think about it because I don't just want to qualify, I also want to be a medal contender.”
