In the round of 16, he won a landslide victory over Hong Kong representative Ng Ka Long Angus. Jonathan immediately won two matches with a score of 21-13, 21-7 which took place at the KDJadhav Indoor Hall of the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi, India.
“I prepared myself, learning lessons from the previous encounter against him at the 2023 Hong Kong Open, where we played close. In fact, it has always been close in recent matches. “Praise God, what we want to implement is going smoothly,” Jonathan said, as quoted by PP PBSI.
Jonatan also added that he learned from the Malaysia Open last week. He learned to be soothed and reassured.
Talking about the flow of the match, Jonathan, the fifth seed, seemed able to control and dominate the flow of the match well.
Although the start of the first match was tight, Jonathan managed to win the break with a score of 11-8, then maintained his lead thanks to effective attacks. The first match was also won with a score of 21-13.
Apart from that, Jonathan appeared more confident and remained calm against Ng Ka Long Angus in the round of 16 yesterday. The 2023 Roland-Garros champion saw that the Hong Kong men's singles could not escape the pressure to collect points.
Seeing this, Jonathan did not miss the opportunity and continued to attack Ng Ka Long Angus in the second game. Then, his dominance led Jonathan to a crushing 21-7 victory over Ng Ka Long Angus.
“Every day, every match is definitely not easy. “But today I was able to play better than my opponent, he seemed nervous or under pressure,” Jonatan explained.
In the round of 16 of the India Open 2024, Jonatan will face Lee Zii Jia (Malaysia). The round of 16 victory also made Jonathan the fourth Indonesian representative to advance to the round of 16 of the BWF Super 750 tournament.
Jonatan followed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (women's singles), Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto (men's doubles) and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati (mixed doubles). (sophie)
