India launches luxury cruise ships across rivers, not oceans

New Delhi

India offers unusual stays. Tourists are advised to cruise on rivers, not oceans.

The cruise ship crossing the river is the MV Ganga Vilas. The cruise ship is even considered the longest river cruise in the world. The vessel will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future.

The MV Ganga Vilas is a luxury cruise ship that will sail for 51 days over 3,200 km. No less than 27 rivers in five states of India and Bangladesh will be explored by the cruise ship.

“Our rich heritage will increasingly be ‘seen’ on the world stage, as tourists can experience India’s spirituality, education, well-being, culture and biodiversity. From Kashi to Sarnath, from Majuli to Mayong, Sunderbans to Kaziranga, this cruise packs a punch for life,” Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India Sarbananda Sonowal said as quoted by Hindustan times.

The cruise ship will also pass through many important historical, cultural and religious places such as “Ganga Arti” in Varanasi, Sarnath, Mayong and Majuli in Assam.

Tourists also have the chance to see the Sunderbans, which are famous for the Royal Bengal Tigers and the Kaziranga National Park, which is the habitat of the one-horned rhinoceros.

Eight river cruises currently operate between Kolkata and Varanasi. There are also those operating on National Waterways 2 (Brahmaputra). Many water sports activities such as rafting, camping, sightseeing and kayaking are practiced in many parts of the country.

The river cruise ship has three decks and 18 suites on board with capacity for 36 tourists. Apart from that, the ship has a number of cool facilities.

Here are the facilities of the MV Ganga Vilas cruise ship:
