India is among the fastest growing major economies in the world, President Droupadi Murmu said in her inaugural address to the nation on Sunday, adding that India has made unprecedented strides in developing physical and digital infrastructure.
“The pandemic has uprooted lives and economies around the world. While the world has been battling the economic fallout from the Great Depression, India has banded together and is now leading the way. India is among the fastest growing major economies in the world. India’s startup ecosystem ranks highly in the world. The success of startups in our country, especially the growing number of unicorns, is a shining example of our industrial progress,” said the President.
The President stressed that the government and policymakers deserve credit for helping the economy thrive.
She said: “Government and policymakers deserve credit for outpacing the global trend and helping the economy thrive. In recent years, unprecedented advances have been made in the development of physical and digital infrastructure.”
The President said recognition must also be given to workers and farmers whose hard work has made this possible, and entrepreneurs whose business acumen has created wealth.
“Through the Pradhan Mantri Gati-Shakti Yojana, all types of connectivity based on water, land, air, etc. will be integrated across the country to enable seamless transportation across the country. For the momentum of growth that is visible in our country, recognition must also benefit the workers and farmers whose hard work has made it possible, and the entrepreneurs whose business acumen has created prosperity. It is all the more gratifying that growth is becoming more comprehensive and that regional differences are also decreasing,” said the President.
The President emphasized that Digital India is laying the foundation of a knowledge-based economy.
President Murmu said: “But this is just the beginning. A series of economic reforms and policy initiatives have prepared the ground for a long period of time. Digital India, for example, is laying the foundations of a knowledge-based economy. The ‘National Education Policy’ aims to prepare the future generation for the next stage of the industrial revolution while reconnecting them to our heritage.”
President Murmu stressed that economic reforms are rightly accompanied by innovative welfare initiatives.
“Economic success also leads to ease of life. Economic reforms are rightly accompanied by innovative welfare initiatives. Owning a home is no longer a dream for the poor, but a reality for more and more people, thanks to the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana”. Similarly, as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission since the launch of the Har Ghar Jal program, tap water connection is provided to every household,” the President said.
President Murmu appealed to every citizen to know their basic duties and follow them in spirit for India to reach new heights.
The President said: “The goal of this and many other similar efforts is to provide basic amenities to all, especially the poor. The key word for India today is compassion, for the downtrodden, for the needy and for the marginalized. Some of us The national values are enshrined in our constitution as basic duties of citizens. I appeal to every citizen to know their basic duties and to follow them in word and spirit so that our nation may reach new heights.
