Here are the three most popular sports news stories in CNNIndonesia.com's Top 3 Sports:
1. With 1.4 billion people, why did India fail to win Olympic gold?
The Indian contingent is under the spotlight after failing to win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics despite having the world's largest population of 1.45 billion.
Currently, India is the most populous country (1.45 billion), ahead of China with 1.41 billion. However, the achievements of the two countries at the 2024 Olympics are very different.
At the 2024 Olympics, India won a total of six medals, including one silver and five bronze. Meanwhile, China is on the verge of becoming the overall champion at the 2024 Olympics with 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze medals.
2. Government demands money for Olympic bonuses, Batswana angry
Some people in Botswana were angry on social media after the government asked people to donate money as a bonus for Letsile Tebogo, who made history by winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In an official statement released on Monday, December 8, the Botswana government said donating money was a way for the community to “honor our champions.”
The Botswana government's demand for the public to pay money as Tebogo bonuses has spoiled the festive mood. Many Batswana are wondering why the government is not giving bonuses on the taxes paid by the people.
3. Rizki Juniansyah accepts offer to become a civil servant
Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Rizki Juniansyah has accepted an offer to become a civil servant (PNS) at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
“Thank God, the Ministry of Youth and Sports offered me to become a civil servant. And I accepted the offer,” Rizki said when met at the RSS regional government, Serang city, Wednesday (14/8).
Rizki received an offer to become a civil servant after winning a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. The 21-year-old presented Indonesia with a gold medal in the men's 73 kilogram weightlifting event.
