The rebuttal was conveyed by the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka in a statement released on Sunday (7/10). As reported NNA News.
“The High Commission wishes to categorically refute the speculative reports in the media and social media sections about India sending troops to Sri Lanka. Such reports and opinions are also inconsistent with the position of the Government of India,” the commission said.
Meanwhile, the Spokesman of India’s Foreign Ministry has emphatically stated that India stands with the people of Sri Lanka as they seek to realize their aspirations for prosperity and progress through democratic means and values, institutions established and a constitutional framework.
“We keep abreast of the latest developments in Sri Lanka. India stands with the people of Sri Lanka as they seek to realize their aspirations for prosperity and progress through democratic means and values,” said Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi.
India became one of the countries that provided assistance to Sri Lanka. For this year, more than 3.8 billion US dollars have been donated by India to Sri Lanka to improve the economic situation.
The deteriorating economic situation in Sri Lanka has led to heightened tensions in recent weeks.
On Saturday (9/7), thousands of protesters broke into the official residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and burned down the private home of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Rajapaksa and Wickremesinghe agreed to resign.
