We have now crossed the mark of 8 billion humans on Earth. These are all creatures that emit greenhouse gases. Next year, India will become the most populous country, ahead of China. If it wants to continue its development, it must invest in clean energy.

New Delhi is a concrete sea of increasingly overloaded and overpopulated: 32 million inhabitants (almost three times as many as Belgium). And the city continues to grow, just like the big cities in India. This population growth comes with a challenge: to meet the growing demand for energy.

Peak heat forces residents to buy air conditioners, which double electricity consumption. Thus, the more the population grows and gets richer, the more electricity consumption will explode. This demand is expected to double by 2040.

To respond to this, India still has coal-fired power plants but also relies on renewable energy with giant solar farms and wind farms. India must accelerate the green transition if it is to act on global warming the country already feels more than anywhere else.
