Jakarta (ANTARA) – Former Indonesian badminton player Icuk Sugiato has said he will continue to be committed to advancing national sports achievements. “The most important thing is that the red and white flag is flying in the international arena. I will definitely continue to support it,” Icuk said in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The man born on October 4, 1962 is inseparable from the world of sport. While active as a badminton player, he achieved various achievements. He won gold in men’s singles at the 1983 world championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. Then two gold medals at the World Cup in 1985 and 1986 in Jakarta.

In the team event, the son of deceased couple Harjo Sudarmo and Ciptaningsih also participated in helping Indonesia win the 1984 Thomas Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the 1989 Sudirman Cup in Jakarta. At the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi, India, he also won a gold medal in men’s doubles with Christian Hadinata. Not to mention the row of titles in various other events. After becoming an athlete, Icuk remains active in promoting sports achievement by becoming an administrator in various sports.

Currently, Icuk is still the Athlete Welfare Officer of the National Sports Committee of Central Indonesia (KONI), Deputy 1 of the Central Board of the Indonesian Handball Association (PP ABTI) and General President of the National Association athletes from central Indonesia. (IANI).

“I am indeed active in various sports, some are administrators, some are just asked for advice or guidance. There are even some who have asked me to become general chairman,” he said.
