Badminton News: Indian veteran badminton player HS Prannoy has proven once again that he still has more energy left to face the competition.
At 31, it's debatable whether HS Prannoy is past the peak of his career, but the 2023 Malaysia Masters champion is still not done.
In his second match at the 2024 Asian Team Championships, Prannoy delivered a strong performance as he bounced back to beat Chinese youngster Weng Hongyang 6-21, 21-18, 21-19 in the match held at the Setia Alam Convention. Central, Selangor Malaysia.
The world number 7 said the hard-earned victory motivated him for upcoming tournaments such as the French Open World Tour Super 750 and the All England World Tour Super 1000 next month.
“Today's match gave me confidence that I am on the right track, I know things will only get better from now on,” Prannoy said. “There are a lot of events throughout the year and there will be games where you won't be 100 percent, where you won't want to try,” he said.
“You just have to accept it and move forward by finding positive things every day,” he added.
HS Prannoy is of course determined to take the Indian men's team to win the Asian Team Championship for the first time and maintain the momentum to be able to defend the Thomas Cup title next April.
“The goal of every player participating in several prestigious tournaments in the future is to qualify for the semi-finals and finals, because we have entered the final stage of Olympic qualification,” he said.
Prannoy admitted that yesterday's match pushed him to his limits, forcing him to play with anger.
“I was very annoyed with the way the match started. “My first match wasn't good either, I struggled physically,” he said.
“But I think it’s very important for me to fight in matches like this, especially when players are ranked in the top 20.”
