Badminton News: After a series of impressive performances on the World Tour, Indian badminton star HS Prannoy moved up two places to reach world number 16 in the latest version of the BWF World Rankings on Tuesday (13/9).
HS Prannoy, who reached successive quarter-finals at the World Championships and the Japan Open Super 750, now has 64,330 points after appearing in 33 Open tournaments.
The 30-year-old Indian senior recently became the best player in men’s singles in the ‘Race to Guangzhou’, which determined qualification for the BWF World Tour season-ending finals.
Fellow Indian Kidambi Srikanth also jumped two places to sit at No. 12 in the world, while starlet Lakshya Sen continues to be India’s highest placed men’s singles badminton player at No. 9 in the world.
Former world champion PV Sindhu, who recently missed the world championships and the 2022 Japan Open due to injury, also moved up to seventh in the world.
London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist Saina Nehwal regained her place in the top 30 after moving up three places.
In men’s doubles, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who won their first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and their first bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, continue to retain their eighth place in the world.
Ashwini Ponnappa/N Sikki Reddy slipped to No. 28 in the world in women’s doubles.
Mixed doubles pair Tanisha Crasto/Ishaan Bhatnagar reached a career-best 33rd after moving up two places.
