Badminton News: Indian badminton star HS Prannoy has regained his place in the world’s top 20, having regularly distinguished himself in international competitions this season.
The 29-year-old from Kerala, who played a key role in India’s monumental Thomas Cup triumph last May in Bangkok, moved up two spots to rank 19th in the world in men’s singles.
HS Prannoy, who reached a career-high eighth in 2018, has become one of the most consistent men’s badminton players on the national team with a string of quarter-final and semi-final appearances this season.
He is now the third highest ranked Indian male badminton player in the world after Lakshya Sen (10) and Kidambi Srikanth (11).
Prannoy, who reached the final of the 2022 Swiss Open in March, overtook World Championship B medalist Sai Praneeth (20).
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu retains seventh place in the latest rankings, while Saina Nehwal also remains static at No. 24 in the world.
Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are firmly in eighth place in the men’s doubles, while Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy are down a step to 24th in the world.
Among other things, 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Paruppali Kashyap jumped three places to No. 36 in the world, competing in the second round of the Malaysia Open Super 750.
The Verma brothers, Sameer and Sourabh, are two other Indian players to feature in the world top 50. While Sameer is 29th, Sourabh is 44th in the BWF world.
