HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap qualify for Top 16 at Taiwan Open 2023

Badminton News: Indian senior badminton players HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap looked dominant, claiming a straight victory in the men’s singles sector of the Taiwan Open World Tour Super 300 tournament on Wednesday (6/21).

The win took them to the last 16 of the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament which provided a total prize pool of USD 210,000 or approximately Rs 3.1 billion.

World number nine HS Prannoy showed his class by comfortably beating hometown player Lin Yu-hsien in just 26 minutes.

Prannoy’s quick 21-11, 21-10 victory in the first round saw him face a senior player from Indonesia, Tommy Sugiarto in the round of 16.

After recently winning the Malaysia Masters Super 300 title, third seed Prannoy is determined to maintain her winning streak on the international stage.

Meanwhile, former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli Kashyap picked up a straight victory over Germany’s Samuel Hsiao 21-15, 21-16. Kashyap’s calm performance set up a pre-quarter-final encounter with hometown favorite Su Li Yang.

However, Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian’s S competition ended when he lost to Japanese sixth seed Kanta Tsunyama.

Although Subramanian put up some resistance in the opening match, he lost in the second, eventually losing 13-21, 5-21 in the first round of men’s singles.

The BWF World Tour offers different levels, including World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500 and Super 300. Each level offers different ranking points and prize money, which contribute to the overall player ranking .
