How do love emojis react to Facebook posts? Students leave India

Silchar, a Bangladeshi student studying at the National Institute of Technology Assam, was sent home after he reacted with a “love” emoji to an anti-India social media post, police said on Tuesday.

Cachar police chief Numal Mahatta said it was “not an expulsion” but only a repatriation after consultation with Bangladeshi authorities.

The SP said Maisha Mahajabin, a fourth semester student of the electronics and communications department of NIT Silchar, was sent back to Bangladesh on Monday through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sutarkandi in Karimganj district.

“This is not a case of deportation… He reacted with a symbol of love in an anti-India Facebook post by his senior and NIT Silchar alumnus Sahadat Hussain Alfi, who left India about six months ago after completing his studies. He is now living in Bangladesh,” Mahatta told PTI.

SP said many people expressed frustration upon seeing the post, and he reacted with “love” emojis.

Mahatta also said that Mahajabin had requested the NIT Silchar authorities to allow him to travel to his country.

Asked whether he would return to complete his studies, SP replied: “He has not completed his studies. As for whether he will return to complete his studies, nothing can be said at this time.

As per the agreement of the Indian and Bangladeshi governments, as many as 70 Bangladeshi students are currently studying at NIT Silchar.

Mahatta said among them, there were around 40 Hindu students of Bangladeshi origin at NIT Silchar.

“I met the students in person and asked them not to do any bad work or get involved in anti-India activities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hindu Rakkhi Dal spokesperson Suvasish Choudhury told PTI that they have taken note of the anti-India messages by the former students and have informed the police to take necessary action.

“We have forwarded several anti-India messages from Rajshahi University in Bangladesh. He (Mahajabin) supported one of the messages with a symbol of love,” he added.
