How anti-Western is Asia’s “dictator’s club”?

In fact, India has no qualms about cooperating with authoritarian regimes. But the forum, which also includes China and Russia, is proving increasingly difficult terrain for New Delhi.

KNow that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned from his state visit to the United States, his next major diplomatic event will be held domestically. New Delhi hosted the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit for the first time on Tuesday.

After Modi demonstrated his newfound affinity for Washington in a cocky remark by President Biden, India is now turning its attention to countries on the other side of the political spectrum. Among the member states, which mainly include China and Russia as well as a number of Central Asian countries, India is the only democracy. It is no coincidence that the SCO is also seen as a group of anti-Western dictators.
