A passenger plane suffered an engine fire while preparing to take off from Delhi airport, India. India’s aviation regulator is currently investigating the incident.
Reported by news agency AFPSaturday (29/10/2022), airline flights Indigo was about to fly 184 people to Bangaluru Technology Center and was just preparing for takeoff when suddenly a fire was spotted. This forced the pilot to return to the start of the runway and evacuate the cabin.
No injuries were reported and officials said the plane was safely emptied.
“The priority is to carry out a detailed investigation into the incident and determine the cause. engine fire“, Arun Kumar, head of the general directorate of civil aviation, told reporters.
“Fortunately the fire was extinguished quickly and the aircraft is now grounded.”
Passengers told local media they heard a loud bang before seeing engine flames.
Indigo said the plane encountered a technical problem, “immediately after that the pilot aborted takeoff and the plane returned safely.”
“All passengers and crew are safe and alternate aircraft have been put in place to operate the flight, which took off at 12:16 p.m. Saturday,” the company said in a statement.
