TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian men’s doubles, Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan (Hendra / Ahsan), chose to relax in the face of qualifying Olympic Games 2024 which will start on May 1, 2023. They don’t want excessive goals and expectations to become a burden on appearances in every tournament that will be played.
According to the couple nicknamed The Daddies, they will only get through the qualifying period as best they can and expect no more from having to qualify for Paris to represent Indonesian badminton.
“Yes, enjoy it, live it. Go into Thanksgiving, if you don’t go in, it doesn’t matter. Stay grateful regardless of the outcome. We’ll see,” Ahsan said when meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Other than that, Hendra/Ahsan also didn’t set any specific goals for the 2023 season. The 3rd ranked men’s doubles in the world just wanted to focus on enjoying every game.
“The important thing is to be able to enjoy every game, so you don’t have to set yourself a target to win or anything. We’re just going to live it,” Ahsan said.
Even though he is over 30 years old, The Daddies’ performances are still fairly consistent thanks to his experience and mastery of mature playing techniques.
Even in the 2022 season, The Daddies have won podiums in five tournaments, namely India Open (Super 500), All England (Super 1000), Malaysia Masters (Super 500), World Championships in Tokyo and World Tour Finals .

Even though they failed to win a single title, Hendra/Ahsan were very grateful for their achievements in 2022 as they were still able to compete well against the younger men’s doubles in the world.
“We just play casually because we don’t want to be too grandiose and the most important thing is that we have the responsibility. Hopefully next year we can also play in a nice way so that the results are good,” said Ahsan said.
