At least 15 people died in India after the heavy rains that triggered flood bandang and landslide near the foothills of the Himalayas.
Floods and landslides are common and cause extensive damage during India’s heavy monsoons.
News agency report AFPSaturday (8/20/2022) experts said climate change is increasing the number of extreme weather events around the world.
According to a government statement, rescue workers were rushed to Mandi district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India north, where floodwaters washed away two homes and killed eight people, according to a government statement.
He said landslides and flooding left seven more dead in the state.
Television reports showed part of a railway bridge washed away by the flood in the neighboring district of Kangra.
In Hamipur district, flash floods left 19 people stranded on the roofs of local buildings before being rescued by disaster response teams.
Schools have been closed in the worst affected districts.
Beautiful Himachal Pradesh is famous for its snow-capped mountains and is popular with tourists.
Last month, eight people died after flash floods triggered by sudden torrential rains hit a pilgrim camp near Kashmir.
Previously, heavy rains hit the remote part of northeast India in June. As a result, nearly 40 people died in a landslide that flooded a camp housing railway workers and reservists in Manipur state.
