TEMPO.CO, Jakarta It’s undeniable, 5G technology is indeed relentless lately.
Even though the government is trying to increase the growth of 5G in the country, difficulties are still common, one of which comes from the mobile phone manufacturers themselves. What is the reason?
Rarity of chipsets
Quoting the business.com page, Gadtorade community gadget watcher Lucky Sebastian said the scarcity of chipsets was one of the hurdles.
In fact, Lucky added that the possibility that smartphones with 4G networks last longer is due to the scarcity problem of the chipset. As a result, many vendors are using older chipsets that don’t support 5G.
“When the scarcity of this chipset can be overcome, the presence of 5G smartphones will soon exceed 4G. Unlike when our country transitioned from 3G to 4G, the penetration of 4G to 5G is 5 times faster,” Lucky said.
Network availability
Although 5G networks are known to offer the advantage of being faster than previous wireless generations, this does not mean that 5G will replace 4G networks as a whole.
According to Lucky, the 4G network will be a backup for 5G networks in relatively rural or rural areas. “When a 5G network or signal is not available, the device will switch to 4G. So the lifetime of the 4G network will still be long,” Lucky said.
According to him, ideally, the 5G network in major cities will be very fast with mmWave technology, then in the suburbs with Sub-6, and in out-of-town areas with low-band 5G. This, he continued, is in line with the range capability that can be achieved as a function of frequency.
The higher the frequency, the faster the network coverage, but shorter. “Well outside of those areas, the 4G network will be a backup to 5G,” he said. In addition, Lucky said that there are currently two types of 5G smartphone buyers. First, they live in an area already covered by 5G. Second, those who used smartphones for a long time before switching so that when they receive 5G networks later, their phones will be ready.
About smartphone preferences
On the other hand, he added that the 4G network in Indonesia is still under development. Indeed, until the end of this year, the government continues to ask operators to disable 3G networks and replace all networks that originally covered 3G to 4G. “So buying a 4G smartphone right now is also not a problem, because the network will last a long time,” Lucky said.
However, he also did not deny that in the near future all smartphones will support 5G. Because, even if the network is 5G, the device can also be used on the network below, such as 4G and even 2G.
About 5G Network
According to techradar.com, 5G is the next generation of mobile data connectivity and its coverage is increasing dramatically. This network brings blazing-fast speeds and greater connection reliability and stability than 4G.
Combining state-of-the-art network technology and the latest state-of-the-art devices, 5G offers a much faster connection than previous cellular technologies. With an average download speed of around 1 Gbps, 5G is ideal for online gaming, movie streaming, or downloading large files quickly.
The network should improve the technology internet of things aka IoT, provides the infrastructure needed to transport the massive amounts of data that will enable a smarter, more connected world. Literally, information from multiple sensors can tell operators what’s going on in your home, town, or even your city in real time.
5G networks have been rolled out around the world with vendors offering connectivity technologies, such as in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and various other countries around the world.
