Badminton News: The Indian badminton team failed to live up to expectations at the Paris Olympics, returning without a single medal despite hoping for at least two medals. National team head coach Pullela Gopichand expressed disappointment, pointing to poor performances in men's doubles, women's singles and men's singles. Investigations by the Badminton Association of India and the Sports Authority of India are expected to ascertain the cause.

India was expected to win at least two medals in badminton at the mega Paris Olympics but came away empty-handed.

Head coach Pullela Gopichand, who has been in charge since 2006, was bitterly disappointed with the performance of Indian badminton players in the quadrennial championships.

“I think we will come back with more than one medal this time. “We are expecting medals in men's doubles, women's singles and men's singles,” Pullela Gopichand said.

Lakshya Sen finished fourth in the men's singles while former world champion PV Sindhu was knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who were favourites to make it to the podium, were actually shocked in the quarter-finals when they lost to their main Malaysian rivals Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik.

“It is an unexpected result. I think the Badminton Association of India and the Sports Authority of India will conduct a thorough investigation. We need to know the reasons for this poor performance. But I am sure if we rectify these lapses, we will find a solution and have a good show in the next Olympics,” Gopichand said.

Although Gopichand is the head coach, most of the players have their own coach at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
