Google Wallet starts working in India, working with 20 local brands

Google Wallet provides payment access for several activities ranging from Boarding passes, loyalty cardsevent tickets, public transport tickets, up to gift cards.

Citing Google's official page, Friday (5/10/2024), this launch began with a collaboration between digital wallets and 20 major brands from subcontinent countries. In the future, Google is also opening up opportunities for collaboration with other companies.

Several local brand partners include movie and event ticket providers PVR and INOX. This collaboration allows Android users to add movie and event tickets to Google Wallet.

To access Boarding passesGoogle Wallet collaborates with Air India, Air India Express and online travel companies such as MakeMyTrip, Ixigo and Easemytrip.

Then, collaboration was also established with companies such as Flipkart (Supercoins), Dominos, Shoppers Stop, Pinelabs, EasyRewardz and Twid.

In the public transport sector, Google Wallet collaborates with Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels and Abhibus to help users purchase travel tickets.

The company has also partnered with systems integrators Wavelynx and Alert Enterprise to make workplace access more convenient through company badges found in Google Wallet.

With this app, users can easily create new tickets in Google Wallet from images containing barcodes or QR codes, such as airline tickets, luggage tags and parking receipts.

If users enable smart personalization settings in Gmail, certain tickets and tickets received by email (e.g. movie tickets and train tickets) will automatically appear in Google Wallet for a number of selected partners.
