Google briefly tried Street View in India, but it was abandoned in 2011.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Google Maps has just launched its Street View service in India. Google partners with local businesses for data collection.
Government India initially banned this service in this country for security reasons, Reuters citing local media reports. Page Indian Expressreport Google Maps street display could attend as the country launched a national geospatial policy in 2021.
Under these rules, local companies can collect data and license other platforms. Google works with local companies Tech Mahindra and Genesis International for Street View services.
They run the Gullify project for Street View in 10 cities. By the end of this year, they plan to feature 50 cities in India in Google Maps View from the street. Within two years, they want to map 700,000 kilometers of Indian territory on the app.
Google had tried Street View in India, but was discontinued in 2011 due to police protests. Local players including Wonobo and MapMyIndia offer the same service in the form of 360 degree panoramic mapping.
