Google Maps finally launches new feature to address Indian users’ confusion over flyovers | Technology News | Home

Google Maps is introducing a number of new features for Indian users, including the ability to search and discover electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on the platform.

The feature will also tell users whether they need to go over the flyover or the service road next to it. “Flyover guidance has been one of the most requested features from our users, we have heard you and are taking action,” said Lalitha Ramani, Managing Director. Google Maps India, at a press conference on Thursday, July 25.

Google said the overpass notification feature, a feature that already exists on competing platforms such as Mappls, will notify users of upcoming overpasses along their routes, so they can decide whether to use them.

The ride hailing feature is currently rolling out across 40 cities in India for four-wheeler and two-wheeler users. However, this update is coming Indonesian: Android first device and will be available for Indonesian: subsequent users.

The tech giant also said it plans to add over 8,000 EV charging points in the country by collaborating with EV charging providers and data aggregators such as ElectricPe, Ather, Kazam and Statiq.

“We are seeing a real surge in the adoption of electric vehicles in India, both for cars and two-wheelers, and we want to make sure that electric vehicle drivers have the information they need,” Lalitha Ramani, Managing Director, Google Maps India, said in a press briefing on Thursday, July 25.

Google Maps will also display detailed information about EV charging stations, such as plug types and real-time availability. Users can also filter EV charging locations based on charger type.
