Google on Thursday (7/28) blocked access to Games belongs to the genus Krafton royal battle. As a result, shares of the South Korean game developer fell more than 9% on Friday.
In a statement quoted by Reuters on Friday, Google said the Indian government had ordered that: Games Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was blocked and forced them to remove the app from play store. Currently, Games It already has more than 100 million users in India.
“After receiving the request, in accordance with established process, we notified the developer and blocked access to the app,” a Google spokesperson said.
Apart from the Play Store, BGMI is also not available on the Indian App Store. So far, the reason for the blockage is still unclear.
Meanwhile in Seoul, a spokesperson for Krafton said the developer was talking with relevant authorities and companies to find out the exact situation regarding the suspension of the two app stores in India.
Representatives from Apple India and India’s IT Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Earlier in 2020, India had also banned Games Another Krafton, namely PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
India is rooted in security risks when it comes to banning PUBG. But widely, this is seen as the result of deteriorating business with China. At that time, Chinese Tencent held the publishing rights of PUBG in India. The move is part of New Delhi’s ban on more than 100 Chinese mobile apps.
