Google Android 13GB for low-end phones, this time it’s a bit heavy

TEMPO.CO, JakartaGoogle announced that the Android Go operating system is used by more than a quarter of a billion devices on Earth each month. Google designed the Go version for phones with low-end chips or low-end phones and limited storage and memory capacity.

However, the latest version, Android 13GB, which Google announced on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, will likely require a higher spec phone than its predecessor. This is the version for Android 13 which was released in August 2022.

Android 13 GB emphasizes reliability, usability and customization. Google Play system updates are available for devices with Android Go from this version, allowing phones to receive critical software updates beyond the main version of Android.

The Google Discover feed, for example, which is on Android on the far left of the home screen, is now making its debut on Go edition devices. The Material You design language is also rolling out, until now limited to non-Go editions of Android devices.

Material You allows users to choose one of four color schemes depending on the wallpaper. When Google first announced Material You as an Android 12 feature, it was also touting the inclusion of more interesting animations.

However, the post on Android 13 GB does not mention this detail. Chances are it’s too heavy for the type of phone the operating system was designed for.

Additionally, some of the key features introduced in Android 13 are also making their way to the Go edition, such as notification permissions and app language preferences. Google says new devices running Android 13GB will arrive in 2023.

Cell Phone Basic Specifications

There is an important note for Android Go system users that they need to upgrade the hardware. For years, Google called it a smartphone designed for smartphones with less than 2 GB of RAM. However, Android version 13 will require at least 2 GB of memory, as well as 16 GB of storage.

That’s a significant increase from the 1GB requirement for Android versions 11 and 12, so phones built for the new version of Go need to be a bit more powerful than that to run it.
