Badminton News: Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah, the only local pair to win the Malaysian Open in the past decade, are gearing up for an incredible reunion.
The winners of the 2014 Malaysia Open will begin teaming up next month, with the Taiwan Open being their first tournament together in eight years.
With this latest move, V Shem/Khim Wah will end their short partnership with respective partners Low Juan Shen and Nur Azriyn Ayub after the Malaysian Open and Malaysia Masters 2022.
V Shem/Juan Shen are ranked 79th in the world, while Khim Wah/Azriyn, who won the Odisha Open in India in January, are ranked 110th in the world.
Lim Khim Wah expressed his excitement as he opened the second chapter with Goh V Shem, who has already been ranked 11th best in the world in his career.
“V Shem approached me after the recent Thailand Open and started discussing it. It didn’t take long to agree on our partnership again,” said Khim Wah.
“We’ve signed up for the Taiwan Open. We’re going to give ourselves two years, so let’s see how it goes. We’re both in our thirties, but I’m sure we still have a few good years left at most. high level.”
Khim Wah and V Shem were surprisingly paired with different players after winning the Malaysia Open in 2014. They also finished runners-up at the Malaysia Masters that year.
But BA Malaysia’s (BAM) decision to pair V Shem with Tan Wee Kiong was right. V Shem/Wee Kiong became world number 1 and won the silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“Forget it,” Khim Wah replied when asked if he was upset with BAM’s decision that led to his downfall.
“I prefer to look ahead and see what V Shem and I can accomplish together on our second stint.”
Shortly after his separation, Khim Wah finally left the national team to become a professional player. But this decision failed to revive his career.
V Shem will be Khim Wah’s fifth partner in his independent career after Hoon Thien How, Ong Jian Guo and Kona Tarun from India.
Khim Wah/Azriyn will face Thai pair Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren, while V Shem/Juan Shen will face Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto at the Malaysian Open next week.
