At the end of the school year, the village students received a visit from a delegation from the Delegation of the Ministry of National Education (DDEN), led by Michèle Beaume, President, as part of the “School of Flowers” project. This is an educational project of learning through gardening. The goal is to share, cooperate, observe vegetation and plant life cycles.
In March, the children grow courgettes, cucumbers, pumpkins and marigolds from seeds collected last year. A water collector provided by the city government has been set up as well as a composter which is gradually being filled with leftover food and trash from the canteen. The sale of plants is carried out for the benefit of school cooperatives to be able to buy land, for example.
Children grow cucumbers, courgettes, pumpkins, and tomatoes and strawberries. The children then tended the vegetable garden: weeded it, watered it. They can see the fruits of their labor before going on vacation by tasting radishes and baking chocolate zucchini cakes. At the start of the school year, they would basically be able to harvest pumpkins.
DDEN gave them gifts, posters, and gardening materials to update next year’s projects.
