French women’s team: The Bleues’ new outfit unveiled with period-fitted shorts

Less than four months before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (20 July-20 August), the France women’s team jersey for the competition was unveiled on Monday 3 April by Nike. And accompanied by shorts tailored to the players’ menstruation.

New start, new clothes. Four days after Hervé Renard’s appointment as coach, Nike unveiled, on Monday, the French women’s team’s new jersey for the World Cup, which will take place in less than four months in Australia and New Zealand (July 20-August). 20). After featuring a floral print for the last Euros, the “home” jersey, which is still predominantly light blue, now features graphics inspired by “Orphism (a modern, abstract version of cubism), an artistic movement popularized in the 1920s, when the first football team French women take to the pitch,” Nike said in a statement. The blue-white-red colors of the French flag also appear on the cuffs of the sleeves, while the crest is ultramarine on a white background.

The “outer” tunic is all white with white and red trim on the sleeves, which are dark blue. It is also reminiscent of Orphism art by “adorned with hand-drawn motifs, cut into hexagons”.

But the main novelty concerned the shorts, light blue for the “home” and dark blue for the “away” clothes, which were adapted to the players’ periods. “Professional women footballers play two halves of 45 minutes without rest or time-out. Many of them tell us that they can spend a few minutes in the field worried about having menstrual leaks. When we introduced them to this innovation, they told us how grateful they were to be able to wear these confidence-boosting shorts when they couldn’t get off the court,” said Jordana Katcher, Vice President, Women’s Global Sports Apparel.

The Tricolores will wear this new tunic during their next scheduled friendlies against Colombia (7 April) and Canada (11 April), while the jersey will be available in stores from June.
