MotoGP News: Francesco Bagnaia said oddities on his Ducati Desmosedici GP 23 bike when braking had been happening for the last two series.
Francesco Bagnaia had to accept the bitter reality when he showed up at the Indian MotoGP last weekend. The Ducati Lenovo rider crashed while in second place.
Failure to finish at the Buddh International Circuit caused the reigning champion to lose many valuable points, so Jorge Martin was closing in on him in the 2023 MotoGP rider standings. Now they are just 13 points behind from each other, Martin therefore has the opportunity to win the champion’s throne.
Bagnaia also apologized to Ducati for causing them great disappointment.
“It could happen at any time, even if it shouldn’t happen, I can’t make mistakes like that anymore,” Bagnaia said, as quoted by Paddock-GP.
Additionally, the 26-year-old admitted that there has been something strange with the Iron Horse since the last two series. However, Francesco Bagnaia still doesn’t understand what makes his bike different from usual.
“Actually, I don’t usually encounter the same situation as here or in Misano. I had difficulty stopping the bike and I didn’t understand the reason,” he said.
“We had a meeting and it seemed impossible to resolve the problem in this race. But I hope that in Japan we will have a clearer idea,” he continued.
When braking, Bagnaia’s Ducati Desmosedici GP 23 motorcycle became difficult to control as it wobbled in all directions.
“It could be a warning that something is wrong, but yesterday (in Misano) I was still too focused on my physical condition,” Bagnaia said.
“In India, my legs were fine, but while braking, the front wheel locked easily and this incident happened only to me,” he added.
Regarding the championship, Bagnaia remains relaxed even if Martin increasingly threatens his position at the top of the standings. The current focus is on finding solutions to the problems of the Desmosedici GP 23, so that it can be competitive again.
“I believe my team can find a solution, I’m not worried. I trust them and I know they can find a solution,” he said.
“Something has been different since Misano, but it is clear that we will not give up,” he stressed.
